Bio

Strasbourg had an unlikely beginning when Justin Jackson, tiring of the modelling industry and looking for a new direction, met guitarist Robert James on a transatlantic flight returning from New York to their native England. Initially arguing over the merits of David Bowie's work on the Labyrinth soundtrack, they found that they had much in common.

Reconvening in London a few weeks later they enlisted mutual friend Henry Appleby as their drummer and started writing.

The resulting songs juxtaposed their favourite elements of the last four decades of English popular music; the style and decadence of 70's glam jarring with the energy and attitude of punk, the hook laden pop of the 80's mixed with the dark drama of 90's kitchen sink britpop, all twisted together with disciplined taut structures drawn from modern electro.

A random encounter at a party led to the recruitment of James Stafford on bass and Strasbourg was born.

When it came time to record, the band built a makeshift studio in the corner of their derelict rehearsal space beneath the railway arches of London Bridge. Continuing the DIY ethic this (now sadly condemned) space also served as the atmospheric setting for a series of infamous impromptu performances and parties for their friends and fans. It was here that they honed their sound and identity, striving to create something new rather than recycling the tired old ideas of the past.

Riding high in the myspace charts and receiving BBC radio airplay, Strasbourg are quickly establishing themselves in the fast moving London scene, and set to make a lasting impression in 2011.
